Selecting Your Heater Type
Last updated: October 24, 2026
V1 and Gen3 show three heater types in the Mysa app: Baseboard, Fan Forced and Radiant. V2 and Lite show only Baseboard and Fan Forced. For more information about Gen3, see Gen3: Heater type.
Mysa for Electric Baseboard Heaters has heater types in the Mysa app. Select the heater type for your heater. Mysa then controls your heater in the correct way for that heater type.
Heater types
- Baseboard: for electric baseboard heaters, convectors and electric wall heaters without a fan. All models have Baseboard.
- Fan Forced: for heaters with a fan, for example toe-kick heaters and wall heaters with a fan. All models have Fan Forced. On V2 and Lite, also select Fan Forced for radiant ceiling heaters.
- Radiant: for radiant ceiling heaters. Only V1 and Gen3 have Radiant.
Baseboard
Select Baseboard for these heaters:
- Electric baseboard heaters
- Convectors
- Electric wall heaters without a fan
With Baseboard, Mysa turns the heater on and off in cycles. In each cycle, Mysa changes how long the heater stays on. This keeps the room temperature near the setpoint. The length of a cycle is different for each model:
- V1 and Gen3: 15 seconds.
- V2: 14 minutes.
- Lite: 12 minutes.
Fan Forced
Select Fan Forced for these heaters:
- Fan-forced heaters
- Toe-kick heaters
- Wall heaters with a fan
What Fan Forced does is different for each model:
- V1 and Gen3: Mysa turns the heater on and off in cycles that are longer than with Baseboard. On Gen3, a cycle is 3 minutes. On V1, a cycle is 3, 4 or 6 minutes: select Short, Medium or Long. When the heater turns on, it stays on for a minimum of one quarter of the cycle. This causes less wear on the fan motor.
- V2 and Lite: Mysa turns the heater on when the room is 0.5°C (1°F) below the setpoint. Mysa turns the heater off when the room temperature gets to the setpoint. After the heater turns on or off, Mysa waits a minimum of 5 minutes before it changes the heater again. If you change the setpoint, Mysa can change the heater immediately.
Cycle options on V1
On V1, you can select the length of the Fan Forced cycle:
- Short: 3 minutes.
- Medium: 4 minutes.
- Long: 6 minutes.
With a shorter cycle, the room temperature stays nearer the setpoint. With a longer cycle, Mysa turns the heater on and off less frequently. If your heater makes too much noise when it turns on and off, select a longer cycle.
Gen3, V2 and Lite do not have cycle options. This is correct.
Radiant ceiling heaters
For a radiant ceiling heater:
- V1 and Gen3: select Radiant.
- V2 and Lite: select Fan Forced.
With these settings, Mysa turns the heater on when the room is 0.5°C (1°F) below the setpoint. When Mysa turns the heater off is different for each model:
- V1, V2 and Lite: when the room temperature gets to the setpoint.
- Gen3: when the room is 0.5°C (1°F) above the setpoint.
After the heater turns on or off, Mysa waits a minimum of 5 minutes before it changes the heater again. If you change the setpoint, Mysa can change the heater immediately. The room temperature changes more than with Baseboard.
Change the heater type
- On the home screen of the Mysa app, tap your thermostat.
- Tap the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Thermostat Preferences.
- In Heater Type, select your heater type.
- V1 with Fan Forced only: in Duty Cycle Duration, select Short, Medium or Long.
Mysa starts to use the new heater type immediately after it gets the change. You can change the heater type at any time.
V2 and Lite do not show cycle options or Radiant. This is correct. For a radiant ceiling heater on V2 or Lite, select Fan Forced.
If you are not sure about your heater type
- If your heater has a fan, select Fan Forced. You can hear the fan or feel the air from the heater.
- For a radiant ceiling heater, select Radiant on V1 and Gen3. Select Fan Forced on V2 and Lite.
- For an electric baseboard heater or a convector, select Baseboard.
The Mysa app helps you select the heater type during setup. If you are not sure about your heater type, send a photo of your heater to install@getmysa.com.
