Gen3: Heater type

Last updated: October 5, 2026

On Gen3, heater type is an app setting with three choices: Baseboard, Fan-Forced, and Radiant. Pick the one that matches your heater so the thermostat controls heat the right way.

Mysa for Baseboards V2 and Mysa LITE for Baseboards only offer Baseboard and Fan-Forced. Radiant as a separate app choice is new on Gen3.

The three types in the Mysa app

  • Baseboard (faster, tighter control): Electric baseboard and convection heaters, and wall heaters without a fan. The thermostat adjusts heat more quickly to hold a tight temperature.

  • Fan-Forced (slower control): Heaters with a fan, including toe-kick and wall fan heaters. Cycles are slower so the fan is not switching on and off as often.

  • Radiant (on/off around the setpoint): Radiant ceiling or panel heaters. The thermostat turns heat fully on or fully off around your setpoint instead of modulating it.

The app shows these three types only. There are no extra cycle-timing choices (such as Short, Medium, or Long) on Gen3.

How to set heater type

  1. Open the Mysa app and select your Gen3.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Open Heater type (control type).

  4. Choose Baseboard, Fan-Forced, or Radiant.

Changes apply to that thermostat. If you are not sure, start with Baseboard and switch if the room overshoots or the fan cycles too often.

On-device menu during setup

The thermostat’s own boot or setup menu may only show bb (baseboard) and rd (radiant). That on-device list is shorter than the app. After the thermostat is in the Mysa app, use the app to choose among all three types, including Fan-Forced.

Which type should I choose?

  • Visible fins, no fan: Baseboard

  • You can hear a fan or feel air blowing: Fan-Forced

  • Ceiling-mounted or a flat radiant panel: Radiant
