Display brightness

Last updated: August 14, 2026

Your Mysa products have two brightness levels: Wake (when you’re using it) and Sleep (when it’s idle).

For Mysa Smart Thermostat and Baseboard V2/V3 you can also turn on Adaptive Brightness so the display follows the light in the room, and Wake on Approach so it brightens when you walk up to it.

These settings only affect the thermostat on the wall. They do not change the Mysa app.

Where to change these settings

  1. Open the Mysa app and select your Baseboard 3.

  2. Go to Settings, then Thermostat Display.

  3. Use the brightness slider and the Adaptive Brightness / Wake on Approach switches.

The slider uses 5% steps. Sleep can be set from 0% to 100%. Wake can be set from 10% to 100%. Wake cannot go below 10%, so the display is always visible when you’re using it. Sleep and Wake can be set to the same value if you want a steady brightness.

Wake brightness

Wake brightness is used when:

  • You press the up or down arrow on the thermostat

  • You change the temperature or mode from the app

  • You walk up to the thermostat with Wake on Approach turned on

After you stop interacting with it, the display stays at Wake brightness for about 5 seconds while it shows the room temperature, then eases down to Sleep brightness.

If you just changed the setpoint, the thermostat first shows your setpoint for about 5 seconds, then returns to the room temperature (still at Wake brightness), then goes to Sleep after another 5 seconds or so.

Sleep brightness

Sleep brightness is the idle level — the look of the display most of the time.

  • A higher Sleep value keeps the temperature easy to read from across the room.

  • A lower Sleep value is better for bedrooms and darker spaces.

  • Sleep at 0% turns the idle display fully off. The thermostat is still on and heating as usual. Press an arrow, change something in the app, or walk up to it (if Wake on Approach is on) to bring the display back.

When the display is off or very dim, the first arrow press wakes it and shows the room temperature. Press again to change the setpoint.

Adaptive Brightness

Available on Mysa Smart Thermostat and Mysa Baseboard V2 / V3

Adaptive Brightness uses the light sensor on the thermostat to raise or lower the display as the room gets brighter or darker. Your Sleep and Wake settings stay the same in the app; the thermostat uses them as a starting point and adjusts around them.

How far it can move

The display can go up to 25 percentage points dimmer or brighter than the Sleep or Wake value you set, and it never goes outside 0–100%.

Wake brightness is still limited to a 10% minimum, even if Adaptive would otherwise go lower. Sleep has no minimum, so it can go all the way to off.

When the display goes completely blank

The idle display can go fully blank when:

  1. Sleep is set to 0%, with or without Adaptive Brightness, or

  2. Adaptive Brightness is on and Sleep is 25% or lower, and the thermostat’s light sensor reads toward the dark end of the lighting it has seen in that room.

In that second case, the display can go off even if the room does not feel pitch-black. The sensor measures light at the thermostat on the wall, and Adaptive Brightness compares that to the darkest and brightest conditions it has learned there. Indirect daylight, a hallway with no direct sun, or a room that is bright enough to use without lamps can still land on the dark end of that range — especially if the thermostat has also seen much brighter light (for example, sun on the wall at another time of day).

A blank display does not mean the thermostat is off. Heating continues. Touch an arrow or walk up to it (with Wake on Approach on) to wake the display.

If you want the idle display to stay visible

  • Set Sleep to 30% or higher, or

  • Turn Adaptive Brightness off and choose a Sleep value you can always see.

Adaptive Brightness does not wake the display on its own. It only adjusts how bright Sleep and Wake currently are.

Wake on Approach

Available on Mysa Smart Thermostat and Mysa Baseboard V2 / V3

When Wake on Approach is on, the proximity sensor detects someone near the thermostat and brightens the display to Wake brightness. It shows the room temperature first. The first arrow press after that shows your setpoint.

Turn it off if the display wakes when people walk past, or if you prefer it to stay at Sleep brightness until you touch it.

Wake on Approach does not run during a firmware update.
