Away Won’t Trigger With Several People Sharing

With more than one person included in geofencing, Away is supposed to wait until everyone has left. Home runs when anyone arrives. If one phone never leaves the boundary, the Home stays in Home mode and the Away shortcut never runs.

How household geofencing is designed

  • Only the Home owner can set up, change, or delete the geofence. Shared users cannot edit those settings.

  • Shared users can be included in the geofence. Each included person must have the Mysa app and location set to Always Allow on their own phone.

  • Geofencing triggers the Home and Away shortcuts you configured. If those shortcuts are empty or set to No Action in one direction, location can change and nothing obvious happens to the thermostats.

Why Away never fires

  1. A phone was left at the house, or someone is still inside the radius (including a large rural boundary).

  2. One household member has location off, While Using only, or battery optimization killing Mysa in the background. iOS is especially strict about background location.

  3. Someone was invited to the Home but was never included in the geofence — or they never opened the app after enabling Always Allow.

  4. Opening the Mysa app forces a location check. If a phone was sleeping at the edge of the boundary, open the app once to see whether Home/Away then applies.

Owner checks

  1. Manage Mysa Homes > [Home] > Geofencing: confirm the boundary, and that leaving is set to Away (not No Action) if you want an automatic setback.

  2. Confirm the Away shortcut actually lowers temperature. Geofencing only runs whatever that shortcut is set to.

  3. If you only want one phone to drive geofencing, do not include the other shared users in the geofence.
