Geofencing
Geofencing
Geofencing automatically triggers your shortcuts when you or other household members cross a boundary around your home. Leave for work and your Away shortcut runs. Arrive home and your Home shortcut runs. No tapping required.
How It Works
You define a circular boundary around your home. When your phone crosses that boundary, Mysa triggers the shortcut you've assigned:
- Leaving the boundary — Triggers when everyone has left (e.g., Away shortcut)
- Entering the boundary — Triggers when anyone arrives (e.g., Home shortcut)
Note You can only set one boundary (your home). You cannot create multiple boundaries, such as one for work.
Before You Set Up
Set up your shortcuts first. Geofencing triggers shortcuts—if you haven't configured your Home and Away shortcuts, do that first. See Shortcuts for instructions.
Enable location permissions. The Mysa app needs continuous access to your location. On your phone, go to Settings > Mysa > Location and select Always Allow.
Caution iOS limits background location access, which can affect geofencing reliability. Enabling "Always Allow" may impact battery life. If battery drain is a concern, consider using HomeKit's native geofencing with scenes to control your Mysa instead.
Tip If geofencing fails to trigger for any reason, opening the Mysa app will check your current location and apply the appropriate Home or Away shortcut.
How to Set Up Geofencing
From the app home screen, tap the menu icon (top left) > Manage Mysa Homes > select your home > Geofencing.
- Enter your home address or use the address from your profile
- Adjust the boundary radius by dragging the edge of the circle
- Select which shortcut to trigger when leaving the boundary (or select No Action)
- Select which shortcut to trigger when entering the boundary (or select No Action)
- Tap Save
Tip You can set No Action for one direction if you only want geofencing to work one way. For example, trigger Away when you leave but let your schedule handle your return.
Recommended boundary size:
- Cities: Around 200 meters (650 feet)
- Rural areas: Up to 1000 meters (3300 feet)
A larger boundary triggers earlier, giving your HVAC more time to adjust before you arrive.
Multi-User Geofencing
You can include shared users in your geofence. When multiple people are included:
- Away shortcut triggers when everyone has left the boundary
- Home shortcut triggers when anyone enters the boundary
This prevents the Away shortcut from running when one person leaves but others are still home.
Note Only the home owner can set up, modify, or delete geofencing. Shared users can be included in the geofence but cannot change the settings.
How to Delete Geofencing
From the app home screen, tap the menu icon (top left) > Manage Mysa Homes > select your home > Geofencing. Tap Delete Geofencing at the bottom of the screen and confirm.
