Demand Response FAQUpdated 9 months ago

Q: What is demand response?

A: Demand Response refers to programs designed to manage the balance between electricity supply and demand. By adjusting or reducing electricity usage during peak periods, typically in exchange for financial incentives, customers can contribute to grid stability and efficiency.

Q: What are the benefits of demand response programs?

A: Typically demand response programs benefit you in a variety of ways:

  1. 1. Cost Savings: By participating in DR programs, you can enjoy lower electricity bills or receive direct financial incentives.
  2. 2. Enhanced Grid Reliability: Your participation helps in maintaining a stable and reliable electricity grid.
  3. 3. Environmental Impact: DR programs support the integration of renewable energy sources, leading to a more sustainable energy system.

Q: What happens during a demand response event?

A: During a demand response event your set temperature will be adjusted slightly (within 1°- 3° in most cases)

Additionally, you will be able to see active demand response events within the Mysa App and on the physical thermostat.

Q: Can I opt out of an event?

A: Yes, if at any time you wish to adjust the temperature you can send an updated set point to override the current event, this can be completed via the Mysa App or using the arrows on your Mysa thermostat.

Note: Some demand response programs require opt-in to a minimum number of events to qualify for rewards, please be sure to review your demand response agreement.

Q: How do I opt out of a demand response program?

A: If you do wish to opt-out of all demand response events, or the program you can contact your demand response or utility provider directly.

Q: Can the utility turn my Mysa thermostat off?

A: No, Mysa’s demand response programs will always be homeowner-first. DR programs are built around small changes to manage the grid, never focus on a single home, and can be overridden by you at any time. There are no options for your utility to request a lockout, shutdown, or limit changes.
