Turning Your Thermostat Off

Off stops your Mysa from heating or cooling. How you set it depends on whether that thermostat is running a schedule — with a schedule, Off on its own only lasts until the next scheduled event.

If the thermostat has no schedule

Select Off on the control screen. It stays off until you change the mode yourself, or until something else sends a new command (a shortcut, geofencing, a zone, or a smart-home routine).

If the thermostat has a schedule

A schedule writes a new setpoint and mode at each scheduled event, so it will turn the thermostat back on at the next event. To stay off, select Off and then hold it.

  1. Open the Mysa app and tap the thermostat

  2. Set the mode to Off

  3. Tap the hold button and choose a hold that outlasts the next scheduled event

The hold type defaults to Until next scheduled event, so changing it is the step that makes Off stick.

Which hold to choose

  • Indefinitely / Hold Temperature — stays off until you turn it back on. Use this for an extended trip, an unused room, or the end of a heating season.

  • Until a specific time / date and time — stays off until then, and the schedule resumes on its own. Use this when you know your return date.

  • Until next scheduled event — only off until the next block starts. This is the option that catches people out when they wanted the thermostat to stay off.

  • Follow Schedule — cancels the hold and hands control back to the schedule, which will turn the thermostat back on.

Turning it back on

Set the mode back to Heat, Cool, or Auto. If the thermostat is still holding, choose Follow Schedule to return it to its weekly routine. Deleting the schedule also works if you no longer want one.

What else can turn a thermostat back on

Even with Off held, these can send a new command:

  • Home, Away, or Vacation shortcuts

  • Geofencing, which applies those shortcuts when phones cross the boundary

  • A zone schedule or zone hold, which applies to every thermostat in the zone — change the zone, not one thermostat

  • Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit routines and scenes

  • Another household member or shared user, or the physical controls on the device

Good to know

  • Off does not power the thermostat down. It stays connected, keeps reporting room temperature, and you can turn it back on from the app.

  • Freeze protection depends on your product. On the Mysa Smart Thermostat, Freeze Protection can turn on heat at 7°C (45°F) even in Off. Mysa for Baseboards does not have freeze protection, so Off means no heat at all — for an empty home in winter, a low setpoint is safer than Off.

  • On Mysa for Mini-Splits, Off sends the infrared off command to your unit, the same as pressing off on the original remote.
