Using Adaptive Brightness and Wake on Approach
Overview
Your Mysa Smart Thermostat for Central HVAC includes display brightness controls that let you customize how bright your thermostat screen appears during the day and at rest. Depending on your thermostat's firmware and configuration, you may also have access to Adaptive Brightness, which automatically adjusts the display based on your environment.
This article explains how to adjust brightness settings, what Adaptive Brightness does, and answers common questions about Wake on Approach and Ambient mode availability.
Adjusting Display Brightness
Your thermostat uses two brightness levels to balance visibility and comfort:
- Wake Brightness — The brightness level when you interact with the thermostat (touching it or adjusting settings through the app).
- Sleep Brightness — The brightness level when the thermostat is idle and no one is interacting with it.
How to Adjust Brightness
- Open the Mysa app and select your Central HVAC thermostat.
- Tap Settings (gear icon).
- Select Thermostat Display.
- Under Brightness, use the slider to set your preferred range:
- The left end of the slider controls Sleep Brightness (idle display).
- The right end of the slider controls Wake Brightness (active display).
- Your thermostat will update automatically after you adjust the slider.
Tip: If your thermostat display appears too dim during interaction, move the right end of the slider higher. Wake brightness has a minimum level to ensure the screen is always readable when you're using it.
Adaptive Brightness
Adaptive Brightness automatically adjusts the display intensity based on your environment, so you don't have to manually fine-tune the brightness slider.
How It Works
When Adaptive Brightness is enabled, your thermostat switches between a Normal brightness mode (fixed levels you set) and an Adaptive mode that responds to conditions around the thermostat. This can help reduce glare in darker rooms and improve visibility in brighter spaces.
Enabling Adaptive Brightness
- Open the Mysa app and select your Central HVAC thermostat.
- Go to Settings > Thermostat Display.
- Look for the Adaptive Brightness toggle.
- Switch it on to enable automatic brightness adjustment.
Note: Adaptive Brightness is available on eligible thermostat configurations and firmware versions. If you don't see the Adaptive Brightness toggle, make sure your thermostat firmware and Mysa app are up to date. If the option still doesn't appear, your thermostat may not yet support this feature.
Wake on Approach
Wake on Approach is a feature that lights up your thermostat screen as you walk toward it, so you can see the current temperature and settings without touching the device.
Current availability: Wake on Approach is not currently available on the Mysa Smart Thermostat for Central HVAC. This feature is available on select other Mysa thermostat models. If Wake on Approach becomes available for your thermostat in a future update, it will appear as a toggle in your Thermostat Display settings.
A Note About Ambient Mode
Ambient mode is a feature specific to Mysa's in-floor heating thermostats. It relates to how the thermostat tracks temperature using the floor sensor versus the ambient room sensor. Ambient mode is not available on the Mysa Smart Thermostat for Central HVAC, as it is designed for a different heating system type.
Troubleshooting
I don't see brightness settings on my thermostat
- Confirm your device is a Mysa Smart Thermostat for Central HVAC (not an in-floor or baseboard model).
- Make sure your Mysa app and thermostat firmware are up to date.
- Brightness controls appear under Settings > Thermostat Display. If this menu is missing, try restarting the app or power-cycling the thermostat.
The Adaptive Brightness toggle is missing
- Adaptive Brightness requires eligible firmware and a supported device configuration.
- Update your app and thermostat firmware to the latest versions.
- If the toggle still doesn't appear after updating, this feature may not yet be available for your specific setup.
Wake on Approach is not showing up
- This is expected for the Central HVAC thermostat. Wake on Approach is currently available on other Mysa models and may be added to the Central HVAC thermostat in a future update.
My screen seems too dim even at maximum brightness
- Check that Wake Brightness (the right end of the slider) is set to the highest level.
- If using Adaptive Brightness, try switching to manual mode to set a fixed brightness level.
- If the issue persists, contact Mysa Support for assistance.
