Shortcuts and Geofencing
Shortcuts and Geofencing
This guide explains how to use Shortcuts and Geofencing with your Mysa for Baseboards to automate your heating and save energy without thinking about it.
Shortcuts
Shortcuts let you change the temperature of multiple thermostats with a single tap in the Mysa app (Android). Instead of adjusting each thermostat individually, you create a preset that controls several at once.
Creating a Shortcut
- Open the Mysa app
- Tap Shortcuts from the menu
- Tap Create Shortcut
- Name your shortcut (e.g., "Away" or "Cozy Evening")
- Select which thermostats to include
- Set the desired temperature for each thermostat, or choose Off
- Tap Save
Your shortcut is now ready to use from the Shortcuts menu.
Using a Shortcut
- Open the Mysa app and tap Shortcuts
- Tap the shortcut you want to activate
All included thermostats immediately change to the shortcut settings. You can activate any shortcut at any time — there's no limit to how often you use them.
Common Shortcut Ideas
- Away — Lower all temperatures to save energy when you leave the house
- Home — Return all thermostats to comfortable temperatures when you arrive
- Bedtime — Lower living areas and keep bedrooms comfortable for sleeping
- All Off — Turn off all heating (useful during warmer months or extended trips)
Tip: You can create as many shortcuts as you like. Consider making shortcuts for different scenarios like hosting guests, working from home, or vacation mode.
Shortcuts vs Schedules
Shortcuts and schedules work differently but complement each other.
Shortcuts are instant, one-time changes. When you activate a shortcut, all selected thermostats immediately switch to the shortcut settings and hold those temperatures until the next scheduled event or until you make another change.
Schedules are recurring weekly events that automatically adjust temperatures at set times. If you activate a shortcut, the next scheduled event on any thermostat will override the shortcut settings for that thermostat.
Editing or Deleting a Shortcut
- Open the Mysa app and tap Shortcuts
- Tap the shortcut you want to modify
- Tap Edit to change the name, thermostats, or temperatures
- To delete, tap Delete Shortcut
Note: Deleting a shortcut does not change the current temperature settings on your thermostats. They will hold their current setpoints until the next scheduled event or manual adjustment.
Geofencing
Geofencing uses your phone's location to automatically adjust your thermostats when you leave or arrive home. When you leave your set area, Mysa activates your Away shortcut. When you return, it activates your Home shortcut.
How Geofencing Works
Geofencing creates a virtual boundary around your home. The Mysa app monitors your phone's location and triggers shortcuts based on whether you are inside or outside that boundary.
- You set a "home" location and radius in the Mysa app
- When your phone leaves that area, Mysa activates your Away shortcut
- When your phone returns to the area, Mysa activates your Home shortcut
This happens automatically in the background — you don't need to open the app.
Setting Up Geofencing
Before you begin, make sure you have at least two shortcuts created: one for when you're away and one for when you're home.
- Open the Mysa app
- Tap Geofencing from the menu
- Enable Geofencing
- Set your home location on the map
- Adjust the radius to define how far from home triggers away mode
- Select your Away shortcut
- Select your Home shortcut
- Tap Save
Important: You must allow the Mysa app to access your location Always (not just "While Using"). This lets the app detect when you leave or arrive home even when it's running in the background.
Geofencing Requirements
- Location Services must be set to Always for the Mysa app on your phone
- You need at least two shortcuts configured: one for Away and one for Home
- Works on both iOS and Android devices
- Requires a stable internet connection on your phone
Multiple Users and Geofencing
If multiple people in your household use the Mysa app with geofencing enabled:
- Away mode activates only when everyone has left the geofence area
- Home mode activates as soon as the first person returns
Each person must have the Mysa app installed with geofencing enabled and Location Services set to Always on their own phone.
Geofencing Tips
Tip: Adjust your geofence radius based on your daily routine for the best experience.
- Set a larger radius if geofencing triggers too often during short errands or walks nearby
- Set a smaller radius if you want your home to warm up faster when you arrive
- Make sure your phone's GPS and location accuracy settings are enabled for reliable triggering
- If geofencing seems inconsistent, check that the Mysa app still has Always location permission — phone software updates can sometimes reset this setting
Troubleshooting Geofencing
Geofencing doesn't trigger when I leave or arrive:
- Confirm Location Services is set to Always for the Mysa app
- Check that your phone's GPS is enabled and has a clear signal
- Verify your Away and Home shortcuts are properly configured
- Try increasing the geofence radius slightly
Geofencing triggers at the wrong times:
- Check the geofence radius — if it's too small, brief movements near the boundary can cause repeated triggers
- Increase the radius to create a larger buffer zone
- Ensure your home location pin is placed accurately on the map
Only one household member's phone triggers geofencing:
Each person who wants to participate in geofencing must have the Mysa app installed, be logged into the same Mysa home, and have geofencing enabled with Always location access on their device.
