Selecting Your Heater Type
Selecting Your Heater Type
Mysa for Baseboards offers three heater type modes to optimize temperature control for your specific heating system. This guide explains each mode and when to use it.
Available Heater Types
| Mode | Best For | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Baseboard | Electric baseboard and convection heaters | Proportional control for tight temperature regulation |
| Fan-forced | Fan heaters, toe kick heaters, wall heaters with fans | Longer duty cycle to protect fan motors |
| Radiant | Radiant ceiling heaters | On/off control, activates 0.5°C (1°F) below setpoint |
Baseboard Mode
Use this mode for:
- Electric baseboard heaters
- Convection heaters
- Electric wall heaters without fans
How it works: Mysa uses proportional control to cycle your heater on and off in short intervals, maintaining a tight temperature range around your setpoint. This prevents large temperature swings and provides consistent comfort.
Fan-Forced Mode
Use this mode for:
- Fan-forced heaters
- Toe kick heaters (kick space heaters)
- Wall heaters with built-in fans
- Any heater with a motor
How it works: Mysa uses proportional control with a longer duty cycle than Baseboard mode. The longer cycles reduce wear on fan motors and prevent frequent on/off switching that can be noisy or reduce motor lifespan.
Cycle Timing Options
Fan-forced mode offers three cycle timing options:
- Short — More frequent cycles, tighter temperature control
- Medium — Balanced approach (default)
- Long — Fewer cycles, best for motor longevity
Choose based on your preference for temperature consistency vs. minimizing fan cycling.
Radiant Mode
Use this mode for:
- Radiant ceiling heaters
- Radiant panel heaters
How it works: Mysa uses simple on/off control. The heater only turns on when the room temperature drops 0.5°C (1°F) below your setpoint, then turns off when the setpoint is reached. This works well for radiant systems that heat objects rather than air.
Note Radiant mode may result in slightly larger temperature swings compared to proportional control modes.
How to Change Your Heater Type
From the Mysa app:
- From the home screen, tap your thermostat to open the device control screen
- Tap the Settings tab (bottom right)
- Tap Heater Type
- Select your heater type
- If using Fan-forced, select your preferred cycle timing
Changes take effect immediately.
Which Mode Should I Use?
Not sure what type of heater you have?
- If your heater has visible fins and no fan, use Baseboard
- If your heater has a fan (you can hear it or feel air blowing), use Fan-forced
- If your heater is mounted in the ceiling or is a flat panel that radiates heat, use Radiant
Tip If you're unsure, start with Baseboard mode. You can change it anytime if temperature control isn't working as expected.
