Understanding Auto Mode
Understanding Auto Mode
Auto mode lets your Mysa automatically switch between heating and cooling to keep your home inside a temperature range you define. When enabled, you get two setpoints—Heat To and Cool To—and Mysa runs heat or cool as needed to keep the room between them.
Availability
- Available on Mysa Smart Thermostat with firmware 4.4.11 or higher
- Auto mode must be enabled in the app before it appears on the thermostat hardware
- First-time setup prompts you to enable Auto mode and set the deadband (minimum separation between setpoints)
How to Enable Auto Mode
- Open the Mysa app and tap the device tile
- Open the Mode menu and select Auto
- If this is your first time, the app will prompt you to enable Auto mode and set the deadband
- Once enabled, dual setpoints appear on the device control screen
Auto mode will now also be available in the thermostat's mode menu on the hardware.
Tip To change Auto mode settings (enable/disable or adjust the deadband) at any time, go to Device Settings > Thermostat Preferences.
How Auto Mode Works
When Auto is enabled, you get dual setpoint control:
- Heat To — Heating runs when the room drops below this temperature
- Cool To — Cooling runs when the room rises above this temperature
- Deadband — When the room is between the two setpoints, neither heating nor cooling runs
Note The fan may still run while in the deadband range depending on your fan control settings. Heating and cooling engagement is also subject to system delays and protections.
What Is Deadband?
Deadband is the minimum temperature separation required between your Heat To and Cool To setpoints. It prevents the thermostat from switching between heating and cooling too frequently (short-cycling).
The app enforces this minimum—you cannot set the two setpoints closer than the configured deadband.
Deadband settings:
- Default: 4°F (2°C)
- Adjustable range: 4°F to 10°F in 1°F increments (2°C to 6°C in 0.5°C increments)
Setpoint Ranges
| Setpoint | Range |
|---|---|
| Heat To | 41–86°F (5–30°C) |
| Cool To | 61–98°F (16–37°C) |
App vs. Thermostat Behavior
In the App
- Full dual setpoint control (Heat To / Cool To)
- Ability to change deadband in Thermostat Preferences
- Device tile shows Auto mode when selected
On the Thermostat
- Auto mode appears in the mode menu only after it's been enabled in the app
- Display shows "AUTO" instead of a numeric setpoint
- You cannot edit dual setpoints from the thermostat—use the app to set Heat To and Cool To
- Switching back to Auto from another mode on the thermostat restores the Heat To / Cool To setpoints you set in the app
Scheduling and Shortcuts
Auto mode works with schedules and shortcuts just like other modes. You can create schedule events or shortcuts that set the thermostat to Auto with specific Heat To and Cool To setpoints.
