Troubleshooting High Energy Bills After Installing Mysa for Baseboards

If your energy bill increased after installing Mysa for Baseboards, these checks help identify the most common causes and get your heating back under control.
Quick Checks
- Confirm each thermostat has a schedule and is not running at a high manual setpoint all day.
- Check for active holds or overrides in the app.
- Review Early On (V2 and V1 only) and geofencing/shortcuts that may be heating earlier or longer than expected.
- Verify your electricity rate in the app so cost estimates are accurate.
- Be careful comparing month to month in winter. A colder month (for example, January vs December) can naturally raise energy use even if your settings didn't change.
Check Your Schedule and Holds
Schedules are the main way to control energy use. Open the Mysa app, select a thermostat, then tap Schedule to review.
- Make sure the schedule is set to lower temperatures when you are asleep or away.
- If you adjusted temperature on the device or in the app, confirm a hold is not keeping the thermostat at a higher setpoint.
- Use Resume Schedule to return to automatic scheduling.
Tip: Scheduling is the #1 way to save energy with Mysa. ENERGY STAR recommends setting your thermostat 7°C (12°F) cooler while away and 4°C (7°F) cooler while sleeping.
Review Setpoints and Limits
Higher setpoints lead to higher usage.
- Check the heating setpoints for each thermostat and lower them where comfortable.
- If you use Off during parts of the day, confirm those events are still in the schedule.
- Consider setting Min/Max Setpoint Limits in Device Settings to prevent accidental high settings.
Confirm Device Settings
In the app, open the thermostat and tap Settings.
- Heater Type should match your system (Baseboard, Fan-forced, or Radiant). If unsure, review Heater Type Selection.
- Timezone should be correct so schedules run at the right time.
Review Shortcuts and Geofencing
Shortcuts and geofencing can change temperatures automatically.
- If you use Home/Away shortcuts, confirm the Away shortcut actually lowers your temperature.
- If geofencing is enabled, make sure the boundary and actions are correct.
- If multiple people share the home, check that geofencing is not keeping the home in Home mode when everyone is away.
Check Energy Tracking (V2 and V1 Only)
If you have a V2 or V1 thermostat, open Energy to review usage.
- Make sure your electricity rate is correct in Settings > Electricity Rate.
- Compare usage before and after schedule changes to see what is driving increases.
Note: Energy charting is available on V2 and V1 only. Lite does not have power monitoring.
Consider Other Factors
Sometimes higher bills are not caused by the thermostat.
- Mysa is more accurate than many dial thermostats, so you may be heating to a higher actual temperature than you used to.
- Mysa makes it easier to stay comfortable, which can lead to higher average setpoints or longer heating periods.
- Colder weather or longer heating seasons will increase usage.
- Drafty windows and doors can cause heaters to run longer.
- If you added thermostats in more rooms, you may be heating more space than before.
